Hello everyone and welcome to the Global African Business Association and it's an honor to serve as your Group Chief Executive Officer of this wonderful organization.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary this year, we must understand that all of Africa's daughters and sons must take part in the connection between the continent and the African-Caribbean Diaspora. In addition to closing the gap, it is our duty to seize our own possibilities rather than letting others take advantage of us or work against us.
When the Global African Business Association (GABA) developed its strategic plan in 2014, we set out to establish a dedicated African-Caribbean economic development team focused solely on marketing the region to global business leaders and attracting investment to the network here in the United States.
We accomplished the feat in a spectacular way by 2023 by achieving multiple projects, job matching and helped launch new enterprises and partnerships, thanks to our Board of Directors and Advisors, government, technology and business intelligence. That is the kind of performance required to fulfill our aim of being one of the most successful and inclusive areas in the state.
This impact reflects our growth as a business, from four people in 2014 to a growing staff of more than 30 experts internationally. Our team is responsible for actions that create jobs and attract investment, including travel to domestic and foreign markets in the African-Caribbean Diaspora, as well as providing talent solutions and partner connections to firms expanding here.
Today, GABA is focused on extending our network and net worth through partnerships and collaborations to gain additional capital for microlending to small and medium-sized businesses, ensuring that our region remains competitive. With the official launch of phase one of the GABA Marketplace Center to create a new distribution hub for African-Caribbean dry goods as well as African businesses investing in local urban communities in Michigan, we are also looking to join the mobility movement in Michigan as the world shifts to electric and next generation vehicles.
GABA plans to expand its Marketplace Center approach by 2026 by developing a new idea for African-Caribbean Food Markets that will use a new e-commerce platform to make it easier for patrons to shop and transport items. This strategy expands on our business development and intelligence efforts, broadens our talent solutions services for new enterprises, and solidifies our position as the best point of contact for local and international businesses. These methods, when combined, will establish GABA as the voice of our African-Caribbean clientele in Michigan's policy discussions.
